Default Banned while chest running

This is a potential warning to others.

My account was terminated permanent last night, supposedly for using a third party programme. I have never used a third party programme. I was running chests in Fronis Irontoe's Lair. (Quite a lot of chests *holds up hand and admits to being an addict). Apparently it was witnessed by a games moderator.

I am trying to work with support to resolve this. I only include this message as a warning to any others chest running in this area (I was in Eng 1 district).

Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place.

Just because you were banned WHILE chest running doesn't mean you were banned FOR chest running.

I highly doubt you were banned for chest running and I HIGHLY doubt a mod was watching you run chests.

Work with support. If you really weren't using third-party programs, then they can figure that out and unban you.

I got perma-banned on an acc't a while back for lvling too quickly...

Had to submit what turned out to be an essay to support about my play style and how I got to lvl 20 in 4 hours...

EDIT: Probably should have added, I got it back...

I dont understand why this would be bannable, or why A-net/NCsoft would think that people would use 3rd party programs to do it.

are you sure you were banned for chest running? rather than banned for something else, but recieved the ban while chest running?

I'll vouch for Mac, she always seemed a very upstanding player when I ran into her.
She's also been buying lockpicks in bulk for a while now (check posts).
You can get banned any time a mod decides you are exhibiting bot like behavior, but they make mistakes as well (especially when you rezone repeatedly such as when chest running).

You probably LOOKED like a bot or something. Did you do the exact same action every time? if it was pretty much the same then IF a mod was watching you s/he would've thought you are a bot.

Good thing they weren't watching me run chests outside Boreal Station then.

Maybe support was afraid of your mental health for behaving like a bot... :>

I ran 6,500 chests in Fronis from December '08 - February '09 to max TH, Lucky, And Unlucky. I was in and out of that zone for 4-5 hours a day practically. There's no way you got banned for the actual chest running. I'm sure I (and lots of others too) would've been banned for that same reason. Most likely somebody thought you were botting since you can find Fronis chests in about 1-2 min (one of the best spots for it) and go into and out of that zone rapidly because of it. Anet needs to take this into account when running their bot checkups there. About two years ago I farmed my Legendary Survivor title by killing that skeletal ranger mob outside Bergen Hot Springs over and over again and my account got banned (overturned in a day due to error) due to "bot-like activities". You can look like a bot and act like a bot, not be a bot, but still sometimes (accidentally) get caught up in bot sweeps.

Explain your situation clearly and I'm sure you'll get your account back. Over the time I chest ran at Fronis, I didn't even once feel like I was chest running alongside bots (and there were a lot of people farming chests/xp for survivor/etc in that span). I wouldn't doubt people are using macros or something to spam their "get up" key when they fall (especially those going for Leg. Survivor), but I doubt outright bots. I steer clear of bots, macros, etc, (not worth it considering all the time I've put into my account over the past ~4 years) and when chest running in Fronis you shouldn't even need to use your get-up key - at all - most of the time.

Just putting a good word in for you, because even though I do not know you, I am sure if you were going to bot, there are way better places to do it than Fronis.

when i first read this i though nah this cant be true, there must be some other explanation but seeing others replies it really seems you can be banned for looking like a bot which is really rediculous. they can't do stuf like that because there totally isn't proof, in my opinion anet should be fined for this or even better ban them from their game and auction it so a company with more integrity can save this game.
Anet themselves have put these title things in the game with which you have to behave like a bot if you want to get to the max on some of them, so they even cause their own problem of being scared that there will be too much loot in the game. this and other stuff made me see since a long time that they really are fools

When running chests, just say something random once in a while like: yeah baby! great loot!, or, Hey I'm not a bot FYI! Just running chests here! and do some emotes.
chat in guild chat while running chests perhaps.

and wow, 6.500 chests ran? omg...

Atleast they "try" to ban bots

Tbh, id rather have 100 Bots banned (who ruins the economy bla bla) and 1 innoncent. Then he can send support-ticket w/e and get it back

So thats what they do with their time? Geeks

God forbid they try to come up with ideas to make the title grind more fun, but no, lets bot hunt and ban the humans while the bots roam free

Anet should have freindly fire damage turned off in their options menu I guess

i did the port sledge run about 3000(9000+chests) times to max treasure.Never had prob's.However not a single run would have been 'exactly' the same as the one before or after it.It's a good test of your gaming willpower
